Landscaping Maintenance, Tips, & Tricks

Important information to know about the landscaping at your new home.

If you have recently moved into a home where landscaping was completed between September 2023 and now, it is crucial to manually water your sod, trees, and shrubs using a hose and sprinkler until the irrigation systems are operational.

Please keep in mind that maintaining your landscaping is essential as a homeowner. Neglecting this responsibility could result in issues such as shrinking or bare patches of sod, dead grass areas, and unhealthy or dead plants, which are not covered by your Limited Home Warranty. This becomes even more critical when temperatures rise to 60 degrees or above.

The irrigation season will typically begin in mid-April. For further information or updates on the irrigation schedules in your area, we recommend checking Brighton's community websites.

Hand Watering

During the initial two weeks post-planting, it's crucial to hand-water your new plants daily, alongside the water from your sprinkler system. This is especially vital in the hot summer months from June to September, as the intense heat can quickly dry out plants.

New plants come with a root ball composed of potting soil that typically lasts for about 4-6 weeks. During this period, the plant will absorb the necessary nutrients and moisture to thrive.

It's crucial to keep an eye on the moisture levels in the root ball, even if the soil around it is already wet. To ensure it stays hydrated, use a moisture meter to check regularly.

Remember to monitor your new plants for proper watering. If your landscaping was done in late fall or early spring, consider hand-watering the sod to prevent any shrinking issues.

Irrigation Systems

Once the irrigation water is ready, our team of landscapers will return to finalize the installation of the irrigation systems and adjust irrigation clocks if they have not been programmed yet. Access to the backyard and garage will be needed for this task.

Our landscapers will make every effort to reach you at home. If you think they may have missed you, please get in touch so we can schedule a time that works for both parties. Should you have any inquiries, feel free to contact us at any time!
